Supporting Authors - A Recommendation
A small break from our series on belonging to ourselves to lift up a fellow writer
Shown above is a stack of books I have purchased written by folks I have connected with on the internet. Many I have followed on social media, subscribed to their newsletters, or been patrons of. Some I have taken courses with. There is something especially exciting about purchasing a book from someone who you've followed for some time and possibly even been privy to their publication process. It feels more personal, like supporting a friend.
As some of you may know, pre-orders of books are critical in determining how much support a book gets from publishers, retailers, etc. A book with strong pre-orders is given more attention and thus hopefully more sales overall. Many of the books in my stack were pre-orders or even kickstarter projects. It felt great to be part of championing success of a book.
So today I am lifting up another writer and sharing with you in the chance that this book might be just what you are looking for. If it's not, no worries, carry on and much love to you. I will see you in my next letter when we return to the journey of belonging to ourselves.
I want to tell you about Lara Vesta and her new book, Year of the Dark Goddess.
Lara is one of the first people I connected with on social media when I first joined Instagram. I have been a follower and a patron of hers for years. Her work has inspired my own healing journey as well as my writing. I have also learned much from her about the culture of my Scandinavian ancestors. Lara is open and honest, is an advocate for justice, and truly lives her work. Everything she does is driven by a deep desire to restore balance to this world. If you know her, you know that she ends everything with this blessing: "By this and every effort may the balance be regained."
Lara's book is a journey for those facing a life transition. From its description: "A guided journey of empowerment and healing through life's difficult passages, with practical tools, including embodied rituals, writing prompts, seasonal self-care practices, and community creation."
You can see a sneak peak of the first 35 pages here.Â
